A Starry Night Spectacular: A Guardian Society Reception
Wow, we had such an incredible time at the Apogee! The Guardian Society Reception was an absolute blast. We met so many new friends and had the chance to share about the amazing work we do for our community through SAVE. We just have to give a massive shout-out to the fantastic hosts, Jeff and Mike, who made us feel so welcome. And let's not forget Todd Delmay, our new Executive Director, who did an awesome job telling the story of SAVE! We are truly grateful to Alexander Quintanilla for capturing all the fun memories of the evening.
Tallahassee Lobby Day
On the 31st of January, we traveled to Tallahassee to meet with lawmakers and testify against a series of anti-LGBTQ+ bills. Departing late the previous night, we made several stops across South Florida to pick up participants before arriving early Wednesday morning.
After a brief breakfast and training session, our delegation headed to the Capitol to meet with various elected officials, including Rep. Christine Hunschofsky, Rep. Marie Paul Woodson, Rep. Anna V. Eskamani, and Rep. Robin Bartleman. During these meetings, the delegation discussed several pieces of legislation, including the "Trans Erasure Bill (HB 1639)", "Bans on Pride Flags Bill (HB 901/SB 470)", and the "Abortion Ban from the Moment of Fertilization (SB 1519)". The delegation also raised concerns about other problematic bills, including HJR 335, HB 1027/SB 1728, and SB 1752.
We are grateful to all the representatives who took the time from their busy agenda to meet with us. We also want to extend a special thanks to Jon Harris Maurer of Equality Florida for his assistance in preparing us for the meetings. We remain committed to fighting against discriminatory legislation and advocating for the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals. Join us at https://www.save.lgbt/actions

Prejudice Reduction Canvasses 2024
Volunteers joined SAVE in reducing LGBTQ prejudice in Miami-Dade County. We taught them how to apply our "deep canvassing" model, which involves canvassers having meaningful conversations about LGBTQ prejudice at voters' doorsteps. SAVE provided all the tools and training needed to have high-impact conversations to reduce prejudice against our community!
Background: In 2015, SAVE set out to find how the best way to reach voters at a granular level to reduce the biases fueling anti-LGBTQ campaigns. To address this issue, we teamed with the Los Angeles LGBT Center's Leadership LAB and researchers from Stanford University and the University of California Berkeley to conduct a scientific study to measure how effective our "deep canvassing" model is in creating change. The results were impressive.
